Short-Lived Severe Warnings Popping Up Across New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine — Strong Wind, Heavy Rain, Hail and Frequent Lightning Possible

MONTPELIER, VERMONT — A few short-lived severe warnings were developing across the Northeast region as of the 10 PM radar update, with storms capable of producing strong winds, heavy rain, frequent lightning, and hail affecting areas from Albany and Schenectady in New York through Vermont, New Hampshire, and into Maine. While no widespread severe outbreak was underway, a general weather statement remained in effect for portions of the region covering these potential hazards.

Short-Lived Severe Warnings Developing Across Vermont and New York

Radar at 10 PM showed the most intense storm activity concentrated in and around central Vermont near Montpelier and Haverhill, with bright yellow, orange, and red returns indicating heavier rainfall cores and embedded stronger cells. The Albany and Schenectady corridor in New York was also seeing active storm signatures, with cells capable of brief severe conditions moving through the area.

A highlighted storm cell was visible near the White Mountain National Forest zone, suggesting localized intense activity in that corridor at the time of the update.

Storm Cells Pushing Into Maine by 10 PM

The second radar panel showed the storm system progressing eastward, with significant activity now developing near Bangor, Maine. Yellow and red returns were visible in the Bangor area, indicating strengthening cells pushing into central and coastal Maine. Farmington and Waterville were also within the active zone as the system continued tracking east.

Southern Maine near Portland and the Gulf of Maine coastline showed lighter returns at this time, though conditions were developing in that direction.

Hazards Covered Under General Weather Statement

The primary threats associated with these storms included strong winds, heavy rain, frequent lightning, and hail. Forecasters noted that while the severe warnings being issued were short-lived in nature, residents across the affected areas from upstate New York through Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine were advised to remain aware of rapidly changing conditions through the evening hours.
