MARKSVILLE, LOUISIANA — A Flash Flood Emergency is in effect right now for southern Avoyelles Parish Louisiana with catastrophic flooding occurring across Marksville and Cottonport as 8 to 12 inches of rain have already fallen across the area. Residents must seek higher ground immediately as catastrophic damage is expected and life-threatening flood waters are actively rising.

The emergency designation is the highest level flash flood alert available and is reserved for situations where catastrophic damage and direct threats to human life are occurring or imminent.

The emergency expires at 1PM CDT Thursday June 18, with radar at 8:59 AM CDT showing extreme reflectivity returns in red and white directly over the Cottonport and Marksville corridor indicating ongoing extreme rainfall rates on top of already catastrophic totals.

8 to 12 Inches of Rain Already Fallen With More Coming

Rainfall totals of 8 to 12 inches have already accumulated across southern Avoyelles Parish, pushing local waterways and drainage infrastructure far beyond capacity.
