NORTH CAROLINA — Scattered showers and thunderstorms are sweeping across North Carolina this Thursday morning, with the heaviest rain currently moving across parts of the Crystal Coast toward the Outer Banks as of 7:53 AM. The rest of the state is experiencing scattered hit or miss showers with occasional bursts of heavy rainfall, a theme expected to continue through the rest of the morning before activity becomes more isolated and scattered during the afternoon hours. Severe weather risk remains low to unlikely throughout the day.
Where the Heaviest Rain Is Right Now
The most intense rainfall activity as of Thursday morning is concentrated along the Crystal Coast moving northeast toward the Outer Banks, with radar showing heavy rain bands pushing through the Hatteras, Avon, Waves, and Manns Harbor areas. Lightning is also present with some of the heavier cells moving through the coastal zone, with temperatures in that area sitting in the upper 60s to 70 degrees range.
The coastal corridor from Morehead City through Belhaven and into the Outer Banks is seeing the most organized and heaviest rainfall of the morning, with the storm system tracking northeast along the coast.
Conditions Across the Rest of North Carolina
Inland areas across North Carolina are seeing a more scattered and hit or miss shower pattern as of Thursday morning. The Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, and Fayetteville areas are all experiencing periodic shower activity with temperatures running in the mid to upper 60s across the central portion of the state.
Western North Carolina including Charlotte, Concord, Mooresville, and the mountain communities around Boone and Bakersville are also seeing scattered shower activity with temperatures ranging from the mid 50s in the mountains up to the mid 60s across the Piedmont and foothills.
How the Day Evolves
The scattered shower and occasional heavy rain burst pattern will continue to be the dominant theme across North Carolina through the rest of the morning hours. As the day progresses into the afternoon, storm activity is expected to become more isolated and scattered, reducing the overall rain coverage across the state compared to what is being experienced during the morning hours.
Severe weather is not a concern today, with forecasters placing the risk as low to unlikely for the entire state throughout Thursday. Stay with GordonRamsayClub.com for the latest updates.
