Deadly Crash Shuts Down MD-201 in Greenbelt After One Person Killed and Multiple Injured Near Cherrywood Lane

GREENBELT, MARYLAND — One person is dead and at least two others are injured following a serious crash on Edmonston Road (MD-201) near Cherrywood Lane, prompting a full roadway shutdown as investigators worked the scene.

Authorities confirmed the collision occurred along MD-201 in the area between Cherrywood Lane and Sunnyside Avenue, bringing heavy emergency response and traffic disruption to the busy Prince George’s County corridor.

One Person Pronounced Dead at Scene

Officials said one individual was ejected during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances leading to the ejection have not yet been publicly detailed.

Emergency crews responded quickly, but the severity of the impact left little chance of survival for the victim, according to preliminary information released by first responders. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.

Elderly Driver Extricated by Firefighters

Road Fully Shut Down for Crash Reconstruction

Edmonston Road (MD-201) was fully shut down between Cherrywood Lane and Sunnyside Avenue to allow for crash reconstruction by U.S. Park Police.

Police vehicles and emergency lights lined the wet roadway as rain fell, creating slick conditions at the scene. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while investigators processed evidence and cleared debris.
