Six Flags Selling Valleyfair Amusement Park in Shakopee, Minnesota as Part of $331 Million Deal — Park Will Still Open This Summer

SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA — Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has announced plans to sell the popular Valleyfair amusement park in Shakopee as part of a larger multi-park transaction valued at $331 million, though officials say the park will continue operating normally this summer.

The company confirmed the sale is part of a broader agreement to transfer ownership of seven amusement parks to EPR Properties, a real estate investment firm. Despite the ownership change, Six Flags says visitors should not expect disruptions to the upcoming summer season at Valleyfair.

Valleyfair Included in Multi-Park Sale

Valleyfair, a major theme park destination located in Shakopee, Minnesota, is one of the parks included in the nationwide deal. Six Flags said the sale is part of a strategy to streamline the company’s business model while maintaining operations at the parks.

Valleyfair has long been considered a favorite summer attraction in Minnesota, drawing families and thrill-seekers from across the region. The park features roller coasters, water rides, and seasonal events that attract large crowds during the summer months.

Other Parks Included in the Deal

The transaction also includes several other major amusement and water parks across North America.

Among the properties being sold are Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Michigan’s Adventure in Grand Rapids, Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Galveston, Six Flags St. Louis, Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury, and Six Flags La Ronde in Montreal.

Together, the parks form a significant portion of Six Flags’ portfolio and represent a major real estate transaction in the amusement industry.

Park Will Remain Open to Visitors

Six Flags officials emphasized that Valleyfair will remain open for the upcoming summer season, despite the ownership transition.

For guests planning visits this year, the park’s rides, attractions, and scheduled events are expected to operate as usual. The company has not announced any immediate operational changes tied to the ownership shift.

Deal Expected to Close in 2026

The $331 million transaction is expected to close by the end of the first quarter or early in the second quarter of 2026, pending final approvals and completion of the agreement.

Industry observers say the deal reflects a growing trend in which entertainment companies sell the real estate beneath their parks while continuing to operate them through lease agreements.

For Valleyfair visitors in Minnesota, the announcement means the park will continue welcoming guests while ownership of the property changes hands.

As the deal moves toward completion, fans of the Shakopee amusement park will still be able to enjoy roller coasters, water rides, and summer attractions as usual this season. For more breaking stories and updates, visit GordonRamsayClub.com.
