Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio Left With Over 412000 Customers Without Power After Thursday Severe Weather Outbreak

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — More than 412,000 customers across five Midwest states remain without power Friday following Thursday’s devastating severe weather outbreak, with Illinois carrying the heaviest outage burden at approximately 209,000 customers while utility crews work around the clock to restore service across the impacted region.

Illinois and Indiana Carry the Heaviest Outage Totals

Illinois leads all states with approximately 209,000 customers without power following Thursday’s outbreak, with the outage map showing the most intense concentrations across the Chicago metro, Peoria, Bloomington, Urbana, Danville, and the central Illinois corridor. Indiana follows with approximately 121,000 customers without service, concentrated heavily around Lafayette, Kokomo, Fort Wayne, Valparaiso, and the broader northern Indiana region.

The outage map shows black and dark red shading across Lafayette and the surrounding central Indiana counties, indicating the highest density of outages in those communities.

Michigan Wisconsin and Ohio Also Seeing Significant Outages

Michigan is reporting approximately 58,000 customers without power, with outages concentrated across the Kalamazoo, Benton Harbor, and Elkhart corridor. Wisconsin stands at approximately 15,000 customers affected, primarily across the Racine, Kenosha, and Waukegan zone near Lake Michigan. Ohio is reporting approximately 9,000 customers without service across the Toledo and surrounding northwest Ohio region.

Combined the five-state outage total reaches approximately 412,000 customers impacted by Thursday’s severe weather system.

Utility Crews Working to Restore Service Across Five States

Utility restoration crews are actively working across all five impacted states as communities begin assessing the full scope of storm damage left behind by Thursday’s outbreak. The widespread geographic footprint of the outages spanning from Chicago through Indianapolis and into Michigan means restoration timelines will vary significantly by county and utility district.

Residents without power should avoid downed lines, report outages to their local utility provider, and check on neighbors who may be vulnerable during the extended outage period.
