WAYNE COUNTY, MICHIGAN — A unique Easter tradition is set to return this week as thousands of marshmallows rain down from the sky, giving families across the area a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience.
Wayne County Parks officials have announced their annual Marshmallow Drop event will take place on Friday, April 3, 2026, featuring a helicopter dropping approximately 20,000 marshmallows across two park locations.
How The Marshmallow Drop Will Work
Instead of a traditional egg hunt, children will gather in open park spaces as a helicopter flies overhead, releasing thousands of marshmallows onto the ground below. Kids can then collect the marshmallows and exchange them for prizes, with some special marshmallows offering larger rewards.
The event has become a popular attraction in the region, drawing families looking for a fun and slightly unconventional Easter celebration.
Event Locations And Timings
The marshmallow drops will take place at two different locations in Wayne County. The first drop is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at Elizabeth Park, located at 4461 Elizabeth Drive in Trenton.
A second drop will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Nankin Mills Park, located at 33275 Edward Hines Drive in Westland, allowing more families across the county to participate.
Sensory-Friendly Option Available
In addition to the main events, officials have also planned a sensory-friendly version of the marshmallow drop. This special session will be held at 9:00 a.m. at the Nankin Mills Interpretive Center, located at 33175 Ann Arbor Trail in Westland.
The sensory-friendly event is designed to provide a quieter and less crowded environment for children who may benefit from a more controlled setting. Due to limited space, pre-registration is required for this portion of the event.
What Families Should Know Before Attending
Officials say the event is completely free and does not require registration for the main marshmallow drops. Families are encouraged to arrive early, as large crowds are expected at both locations.
One important detail noted by organizers is that the marshmallows will be mixed with oat flour, something attendees should keep in mind, especially for those with allergies or sensitivities.
