Slow Moving Downpours Tracking Toward Indianapolis and Carmel With IMS Entry Expected Around 3 PM Today

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA — BAM Weather forecaster Kemper has issued a nowcast as of 1:30 PM ET on May 24, 2026, tracking a developing group of slow-moving downpours currently west of Indianapolis that are expected to push into the IMS area around 3 PM ET this afternoon, with isolated sprinkles possible out ahead of the main band.

Current Band of Showers Positioned Near Greencastle and Cloverdale at 1:30 PM

The nowcast graphic shows the current band of sprinkles and showers positioned near Greencastle, Cloverdale, and Brazil on the western side of the Indianapolis metro at the time of issue. The storm system is slow-moving, meaning rainfall totals could be locally higher than a faster-moving system would produce as it pushes through the area.

The tracking graphic details ETA positions in increments of 45 minutes, giving residents a precise window to prepare for incoming rainfall before it arrives at their location.

Downpours Expected Near Danville and Plainfield by 2:15 PM

Following the 45-minute increment tracking, the developing band of downpours is projected to reach the Danville and Plainfield corridor by approximately 2:15 PM ET. This places the system on a direct path toward the core of the Indianapolis metro, with the western suburbs sitting in the immediate path of the approaching rainfall.

Residents in Plainfield, Danville, and surrounding western Indianapolis communities should anticipate the onset of rain well before the 3 PM IMS arrival time and plan accordingly if heading out this afternoon.

IMS Area and Carmel Corridor in Direct Path Around 3 PM

The 3 PM position on the tracking map places the downpour band directly over the IMS area and pushing toward Carmel and Noblesville to the north. Anyone attending events at or near the IMS this afternoon should be prepared for rainfall arriving right around the 3 PM window.

A few isolated sprinkles out ahead of the main band are also possible across the broader Indianapolis area before the primary downpours arrive, giving residents an early signal that the system is approaching.
