PARIS, TEXAS — A Sunday night disturbance at a Whataburger in Paris escalated into an arrest after police say a 41-year-old man from Spring, Texas returned to the restaurant and assaulted a manager — and later flooded his jail cell while in custody.
According to Paris Police, the incident began after the man allegedly made verbal threats inside the restaurant and was asked to leave.
Altercation Inside the Restaurant
Authorities say Anthony Newhuis later returned to the Whataburger and assaulted the manager multiple times. During the confrontation, the manager reportedly fought back by slamming a trash can onto Newhuis while he was on the ground.
Officers responding to the scene located Newhuis in the back parking lot suffering from head injuries. He was treated for those injuries before being taken into custody.
Charges Filed
Police booked Newhuis into the Paris city jail on charges of assault and public intoxication. However, the situation did not end there.
Additional Charge After Booking
While in custody, authorities say Newhuis intentionally flooded his jail cell, resulting in an additional criminal mischief charge. Police have not released further details regarding the extent of the damage or whether additional charges may follow.
Case Moving Forward
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Newhuis is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The case will now proceed through the legal system as prosecutors review the evidence.
The incident has drawn attention locally, particularly because it unfolded inside a well-known fast-food chain and continued after the suspect was already in custody. For updates on this case and other breaking legal developments across Texas and beyond, stay connected with GordonRamsayClub.com.
