DETROIT, MICHIGAN — Three teenage suspects are in custody following a police chase that ended in a crash near 8 Mile Road, with investigators linking the group to a series of violent crimes including multiple carjackings, shootings, and a recent homicide.
Vehicle Located Near 8 Mile Leads to Police Pursuit
According to authorities, Michigan State Police troopers working alongside local task forces located a vehicle connected to recent criminal activity near 8 Mile Road and Burt Street Monday night.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, triggering a pursuit that moved through nearby streets, including the area of Hessel and Sunderland.
Suspects Attempt to Evade Police Before Crash
Troopers attempted to box in the vehicle on northbound Sunderland, a dead-end street, but the suspect vehicle drove toward officers during the maneuver. A PIT maneuver was attempted but was unsuccessful, and two patrol vehicles were damaged in the process.
The situation escalated further when the suspect vehicle turned onto Hessel and crashed head-on into another patrol car, bringing the pursuit to an end.
Three Teen Suspects Taken Into Custody
All three occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody at the scene, including an 18-year-old driver, an 18-year-old passenger, and a 17-year-old passenger.
Authorities also recovered two firearms from inside the vehicle, adding to the seriousness of the case.
Investigation Links Suspects to Multiple Violent Crimes
Investigators believe the suspects are connected to a string of violent incidents over the past several days. These include five armed carjackings, three non-fatal shootings, and a recent homicide.

One state trooper was transported to a local hospital as a precaution and was later released. No additional injuries were reported, including among K-9 units or members of the public.
