PIERCE COUNTY, WASHINGTON — A tense confrontation unfolded at a school in Pierce County after deputies say a driver ignored a crossing guard’s instructions and drove through a crosswalk while a student was walking — leading to his arrest the following day and a deputy breaking his vehicle window during the encounter.
According to authorities, the incident began on February 10 at a school crosswalk where a crossing guard was actively directing traffic.
Driver Allegedly Ignored Crossing Guard With Student in Crosswalk
Deputies said the man failed to follow the crossing guard’s instructions and drove through the marked crosswalk while a student was in the process of walking across.
Officials described the behavior as reckless and potentially dangerous, especially given the presence of children in the area. The incident was later investigated, and deputies determined there was probable cause to pursue charges.
Deputies Locate Man at School the Next Day
The following day, law enforcement located the driver at the school and attempted to take him into custody. Authorities said the situation escalated as the man allegedly went “back and forth” with deputies and did not comply with instructions. During the confrontation, a deputy broke the vehicle’s window with his bare hands in order to effect the arrest.

The man was booked into the Pierce County Jail on multiple charges, including:
