TACOMA, WASHINGTON — What began as a harmless prank quickly spiraled into a terrifying and violent encounter when a man allegedly chased down a group of teens and shot one of them after being hit with a water balloon.
According to police, 31-year-old Majeed Guerry became enraged after the teens tossed a water balloon through his open car window on February 28. The situation escalated within minutes, turning into a confrontation that left one teenager seriously injured and hospitalized.
What Happened Before the Shooting
Investigators say Guerry was driving through Tacoma when the water balloon struck him. Instead of ignoring the prank, he allegedly pursued the teens’ vehicle and forced them to stop by cornering them with his car.
Once the teens were trapped, Guerry reportedly got out and began shouting aggressively. Witness statements included in a probable cause affidavit describe him yelling threats, including statements that he could kill everyone in the vehicle.

The teens reportedly handed over money, initially giving just $1, which angered Guerry further. After being handed approximately $100, the situation still did not de-escalate.

According to investigators, Guerry pointed the firearm at multiple teens before focusing on the front passenger. The victim told police that the gun was pressed against his body at close range.
The affidavit describes how the suspect allegedly pulled the trigger with the weapon less than a foot from the teen’s chest. The victim survived but sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital.
Even after the shooting, Guerry reportedly left the scene calmly, slamming the car door and walking away.
Arrest and Charges Filed
After the teens contacted authorities, police tracked Guerry to a nearby casino, where he was arrested. Officials confirmed that he is a four-time convicted felon, making his possession of a firearm illegal.
Guerry has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including assault, robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm. His bail has been set at $150,000 as the case moves forward.
