MARION COUNTY, FLORIDA — A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the death of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter following an alleged abuse incident at a home in Citra, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say Jeroen Jarrel Coombs was taken into custody and charged with aggravated child abuse in connection with the death of Paisley Brown.
Allegations Inside the Citra Home
Investigators report that Coombs was caring for the toddler at the residence when the abuse occurred. According to deputies, Coombs admitted to binding the child’s hands with a robe tie and securing her legs with painter’s tape.
Officials allege that while the child was restrained, Coombs dropped her onto the floor and struck her multiple times. Law enforcement documents state that he later told deputies he “took it too far.”
When the child became unresponsive, deputies say Coombs waited approximately 40 minutes before calling 911, reportedly telling investigators he delayed contacting emergency services because he was scared.
Paisley Brown later died from injuries sustained during the incident, authorities said.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Response
The case has sparked significant outrage throughout Marion County. Community members have gathered to demand accountability and justice for the young victim.
Officials confirmed that the Florida Department of Children and Families has removed four other children from the home and placed them into protective custody as the investigation continues.
