SANDY SPRINGS, GEORGIA — A brutal domestic violence case has ended in a life sentence after a man admitted to killing his girlfriend, days after she warned police he had threatened her life.
Mamadi Tambajang was convicted of murder in the death of 31-year-old Amber Kelly, who was found beaten to death inside their apartment. Authorities say the attack was severe, leaving behind a crime scene that investigators described as deeply disturbing.
Warning Signs Before the Killing
Court records reveal that Kelly had already raised alarms about Tambajang’s behavior before her death. In a 911 call obtained by local media, she told dispatchers that her boyfriend had threatened to kill her twice in the same week.
Despite these warnings, the violence continued. Prosecutors also confirmed that Tambajang had two pending domestic violence cases involving Kelly at the time of the murder.
Family members later said they had urged Kelly to leave the relationship, but she believed he could change.
What Happened Inside the Apartment
According to prosecutors, Tambajang inflicted more than 25 blunt force injuries on Kelly during the attack. Officials described the crime scene as horrific, pointing to the severity of the beating.
Authorities believe the killing occurred a day or two before Tambajang eventually turned himself in. During that time, he did not seek medical help for Kelly.
Instead, police said he left the scene and traveled to his mother’s home in South Carolina before returning to Georgia.

On May 15, 2024, Tambajang walked into the Sandy Springs Police Department and told officers he wanted to confess. He asked them to check on Kelly, claiming he didn’t know if she was alive.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they discovered Kelly’s body.
Prosecutors later argued that his concern was not genuine, emphasizing that he never called emergency services after the attack.
“He Snapped,” Defense Claims
During the investigation, Tambajang claimed that he “snapped” and was provoked into the violent assault.
Prosecutors rejected that explanation, pointing to the pattern of abuse and prior threats. They argued that the attack was the result of ongoing violence rather than a sudden loss of control.
Sentencing and Family Reaction
Tambajang has been sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 50 years.
For Kelly’s family, the sentence brings some closure, but the loss remains overwhelming. Her mother, Sharon Henderson, recalled the moment police informed her of her daughter’s death, describing it as a life-changing shock.
The case has also drawn attention to the dangers of escalating domestic violence and the warning signs that often appear before such tragedies.
