DETROIT, MICHIGAN — A Detroit hairstylist is facing felony charges after prosecutors say a dispute over a discounted hair appointment escalated into a frightening confrontation involving a firearm at a home on the city’s west side.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, 31-year-old Justice Angelique-Danielle Snell of Detroit has been charged with Felonious Assault and Felony-Firearm following an incident that allegedly occurred on March 6, 2026. Authorities say the confrontation happened around 9:58 p.m. at Snell’s residence in the 1100 block of West Forest Avenue.
Dispute Began Over “313 Day” Hair Promotion
Investigators say the victim visited the residence after seeing a “313 discount” promotion for hair braiding posted on Facebook. The offer appeared to reference Detroit’s well-known 313 area code, which is often celebrated locally during “313 Day” promotions and events.
According to prosecutors, a disagreement began when Snell allegedly demanded more money than the price originally advertised for the hair service. When the customer attempted to discuss the cost, authorities say the situation quickly became tense.
Argument Escalated Inside the Home
Prosecutors say the victim told Snell she only had $150 available and offered to give her everything she had to complete the appointment. Investigators allege Snell became agitated during the discussion and demanded additional payment.
Authorities claim the situation escalated dramatically when Snell allegedly grabbed an AR-style pistol, pointed it toward the victim, and threatened her. Prosecutors also allege that during the confrontation Snell cut the braids out of one of the victims before the situation ended.
Incident Captured on Cellphone Video
Officials say video of the encounter was captured on a cellphone, which later became part of the investigation. The footage reportedly shows the confrontation that unfolded during the dispute over payment for the hair appointment. The video quickly circulated online after the incident, drawing widespread attention to the case.
Charges Filed in Wayne County Court
Snell was arraigned Friday in Detroit’s 36th District Court, where a judge set bond at $20,000. She now faces felony charges connected to the alleged threat involving the firearm. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors continue reviewing evidence related to the incident.
