This choco-buttermilk cake with chocolate frosting is so rich, soft, creamy and very delicious! It is so easy to make, it will take you just 15 minutes to prepare it plus 30 minutes to cook. Surprise your family or friends with this creamy cake and serve with a cup of coffee or ice tea for great enjoyment! Here is the recipe:
For the cake:
- 1 cup butter
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder, unsweetened
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- A pinch of salt
For the chocolate frosting:
- 1 cup butter
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder, unsweetened
- 1/3 cup buttermilk
- 16-ounce (1 package) confectioners’ sugar
- 1/2 cup toasted pecans
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
To make the cake:
- Preheat oven to 350°F/180°C/ Gas Mark 4, and grease a 9 by 13-in. pan.
- In a small saucepan, add 1/3 cocoa powder, 1 cup butter, and 1 cup water and heat over low heat; stir constantly until butter is melted and you get a smooth. Remove from heat.
- In a mixer bowl, whisk buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and baking soda until smooth. Gradually pour melted butter mixture, whisking until incorporated.
- In a medium bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Put to buttermilk mix and whisk until blended. Spread batter in prepared pan. Place in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes.
To make the frosting:
- In a medium saucepan, add butter, buttermilk, and cocoa. Heat over medium, stirring constantly, until you get a smooth mixture.
- Remove and add in confectioners’ sugar, pecans, and vanilla. Pour over dessert while it is still warm. Allow to cool and set before serving. Slice and serve.
