Bonet from Piedmont – Chocolate Pudding (Food Network)

Bonet is a traditional chocolate pudding dessert that originates from Piedmont, a region in Italy. It is so rich, chocolatey and very delicious! Simple and easy, ideal for all chocolate and Italian cuisine lovers. You will need around one hour to make it and taste it. Try the recipe:


Ingredients:

  • 5 oz. granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 oz. amaretti biscuits or macaroons cookies
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ½ tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoon dark rum
  • 1 egg yolk

For the caramel:

  • 3/4 cup (150 grams) granulated sugar
  • 3 ½ oz. water

 

Instructions:

  • In a casserole, apply sugar and pour water. Set over a medium-low heat and allow to cook until you get a nice caramel color (deep brown).
  • Apply the caramel into molds; leave to cool.
  • In a bowl, using an electric mixer beat the eggs together with the caster sugar.
  • Mix in the cocoa powder and beat thoroughly; then pour the rum and add the crushed Amaretti biscuits.
  • Next, heat the milk separately; then pour it into the mixture, whisking continuously.
  • Apply the mixture into the caramel-coated molds.
  • Place the molds into a baking tray with hot water; cook bain-marie style in the oven at 150°C/300°F/Gas Mark 2, for about 40 to 50 minutes, or until the dessert has fully coagulated.
