SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Newly released body camera footage is shedding new light on a late-night traffic stop in San Marcos that escalated into a deadly confrontation between deputies and an armed passenger inside a vehicle.
Authorities say the incident began when deputies pulled over a red Hyundai Sonata for a vehicle code violation during the nighttime hours. What initially appeared to be a routine stop quickly raised suspicion when officers noticed irregularities involving the vehicle.
Deputies Notice Signs the Vehicle May Be Stolen
While speaking with the occupants and inspecting the vehicle, deputies reportedly discovered registration inconsistencies. They also noticed damage to the steering column, which investigators say is often a sign associated with stolen vehicles.
