Phoenix Arizona, Albuquerque New Mexico, Nashville Tennessee Offer Best Views of Four Visible Planets Saturday Night

PHOENIX, ARIZ. — Four planets are hanging around the sky tonight, Saturday, June 20, into early Sunday morning if your skies stay clear, with the Desert Southwest and Mid Atlantic offering the cleanest air for viewing between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. ET.

Venus, Jupiter, Mercury Visible Right After Sunset

Right after sunset, look low to the west for bright Venus, then Jupiter below it, and Mercury even lower in the northwest. No telescope is needed, just clear skies and your eyes to catch all three low on the horizon shortly after the sun goes down.

Saturn Visible Low in the East Before Dawn

For those up before dawn, Saturn sits low in the east, rounding out the four planet lineup visible Saturday night into early Sunday. The first quarter moon, at 34 percent illumination, sets after 1 a.m. CT, leaving darker skies for the rest of the night.

Phoenix, Albuquerque, Nashville Offer Clearest Skies

The Desert Southwest and Mid Atlantic have the cleanest air tonight, with spots like Phoenix, Albuquerque, and Nashville looking crisp and offering some of the best viewing conditions in the country. Much of the West, including Nevada, Utah, and Arizona, along with parts of the East Coast, are also rated Excellent or Clear for stargazing.

Storms Remain Bigger Story in the Plains

Storms remain the bigger story Saturday across Wyoming, Kansas, and Nebraska, so this stargazing outlook is geared toward folks well away from that active severe weather. Far north residents near the Canadian border also have a faint shot at seeing aurora low on the horizon overnight.
