Perfect Weather Corridor Hits Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Springfield With Best Conditions in the USA Today

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA — A rare stretch of near-perfect weather is dominating the central United States this Sunday, with the finest atmospheric conditions in the entire country locked onto a corridor running from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, through Des Moines, Iowa, and extending south to Springfield, Missouri.

Cedar Rapids to Springfield Corridor Earns “Perfect” Rating on National Outlook

According to the Ryan Hall Y’all Nice Weather Outlook, updated at 6:31 AM ET on May 24, 2026, the deep green “Perfect” designation covers central Iowa down through northern Missouri. This is the second-highest rating on the scale, sitting just below the rare “Pristine” category.

Residents across this corridor are looking at one of the most comfortable late-May days possible — ideal temperatures, manageable humidity, and favorable skies making it a standout Sunday for any outdoor activity.

“Beautiful” Zones Spread Across Northwest, Southwest and Northern Plains

Outside the top-rated corridor, large sections of the country are also seeing well-above-average conditions today. Bright green “Beautiful” zones are visible across parts of the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest desert region, the Northern Plains, and pockets of the upper Midwest.

These areas sit one tier below the Perfect corridor but still represent an exceptional weather day for millions of Americans heading outdoors this weekend.

“Nice” Rating Blankets Most of the Remaining Continental United States

The lighter blue “Nice” rating covers the majority of the remaining country — including much of the West Coast, the Great Lakes region, and portions of New England. Even the Southeast, which typically battles heat and humidity in late May, is holding a “Fair” to “Nice” designation across most states.

A few scattered “Fair” pockets are visible across the Gulf Coast, parts of the mid-Atlantic, and interior Southeast — the only softer spots on an otherwise broadly pleasant national map.

No “Pristine” zones are active anywhere in the country today, making the Iowa-to-Missouri corridor the single best place to be in the entire United States on this Sunday.
