TEXAS — A 25-year-old Texas man is now facing serious felony charges after investigators say he secretly crushed abortion medication into his pregnant girlfriend’s drink while she was 14 weeks pregnant, allegedly causing her to deliver a stillborn baby girl named Presley Mae after he had repeatedly pressured her to have an abortion and even offered her money to travel out of state for one.
Jon Rueben Demeter was indicted by a grand jury on charges tied to abortion and injury to a child and could face anywhere from five years to life behind bars if convicted.
Demeter Allegedly Gave Pregnant Girlfriend Passion Fruit Liquid IV Spiked With Crushed Mifepristone
According to court documents, Demeter allegedly gave the woman a drink he described as a passion fruit liquid IV while she was 14 weeks pregnant, with investigators claiming the drink contained crushed mifepristone abortion pills secretly mixed into the beverage without her knowledge or consent.
The woman later became seriously ill and was rushed to the hospital where she delivered a stillborn baby girl named Presley Mae, a devastating outcome that authorities directly link to the allegedly spiked drink given to her by Demeter.
Investigators reportedly found evidence of crushed pills and white powder residue during a search of Demeter’s home, which prosecutors say supports the allegations outlined in the grand jury indictment against him.
Demeter Previously Tried to Convince Girlfriend to Abort and Offered Money for Out of State Procedure
Court documents reveal that Demeter had previously and repeatedly tried to convince the woman to terminate the pregnancy before the alleged spiking incident, going as far as allegedly offering her money to travel out of state to obtain an abortion when she refused his requests.
Demeter was first arrested in February on an aggravated assault charge before prosecutors upgraded the case following the grand jury indictment to the more serious felony charges he now faces.
