CENTRAL AND EAST FLORIDA — Monday is a watch the sky day across central and east Florida, with a few afternoon and evening storms capable of turning strong to severe between 3 PM and 10 PM. A Marginal Risk zone covers the region including Orlando, Melbourne, Jacksonville, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami, with damaging wind identified as the primary threat. Hail up to 1 inch, heavy rain, frequent lightning, and a brief spin-up tornado near boundaries are also possible with the strongest storms during the seven hour threat window.
What Threats Are Expected Monday
Damaging wind is the headline hazard for Monday’s storm threat across central and east Florida. The strongest storms between 3 PM and 10 PM could produce wind gusts capable of downing trees and causing localized damage across communities within the Marginal Risk zone.
Hail up to 1 inch in diameter is also possible with the most intense cells, along with heavy rain and frequent lightning accompanying storm activity throughout the afternoon and evening. A brief spin-up tornado near atmospheric boundaries cannot be ruled out, adding a rotating storm element to an otherwise wind and rain driven event.
Not Everyone Will Be Impacted
Meteorologists were clear that this is only a Marginal Risk, meaning most Florida residents will not experience severe weather on Monday. However, those who do get hit by one of the stronger storm cells could face a rough 30 to 45 minutes of intense conditions before the storm passes.
The scattered and hit or miss nature of afternoon convection in Florida means storm coverage will be uneven across the state, with some communities seeing significant activity while nearby areas remain completely dry.
Stay Weather Aware From 3PM Onwards
All residents across Orlando, Melbourne, Jacksonville, Tampa, and the broader central and east Florida Marginal Risk zone are urged to monitor weather conditions closely from 3 PM onwards Monday. Have a shelter plan ready and move indoors immediately if thunder is heard or a severe thunderstorm warning is issued for your county during the afternoon and evening hours.
