Fired Amazon Employee Anthony Gillio Arrested in Lee County Florida After Slashing Tires on 29 Delivery Vans and Stealing 23 Key Fobs Overnight at Logistics Drive Facility

LEE COUNTY, FLORIDA — A 22-year-old former Amazon employee, Anthony Gillio, has been arrested after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office says he carried out a large-scale act of vandalism at an Amazon facility on Logistics Drive, slashing tires on 29 delivery vehicles overnight and causing additional body damage to the vans. Authorities also reported that 23 key fobs used for the vehicles went missing during the same incident, and Gillio allegedly attempted to dispose of evidence by throwing key fobs, a knife, and gloves into the Caloosahatchee River.

What Happened at the Amazon Facility

Deputies responded to a report of damage at the Amazon facility on Logistics Drive after discovering that 29 delivery vehicles had been vandalized overnight. Investigators found that each of the affected vans had slashed tires along with additional damage to their bodies, representing a significant and deliberate act of destruction targeting a large portion of the facility’s delivery fleet.

Twenty three key fobs used to operate the vehicles were also reported missing following the incident, adding theft charges on top of the extensive vandalism discovered at the facility.

How Investigators Linked Gillio to the Crime

During the investigation, deputies identified Anthony Gillio as a recently terminated employee who had been upset about losing his job and was considered a prime suspect in the vandalism. Detectives used license plate reader technology to place Gillio near the Amazon facility around the time the overnight incident took place.

He was subsequently located and taken into custody by Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies following the license plate evidence placing him at the scene.

Evidence Dumped in the Caloosahatchee River

After carrying out the alleged vandalism, Gillio reportedly attempted to dispose of incriminating evidence by throwing key fobs, a knife, and gloves into the Caloosahatchee River in an effort to destroy the link between himself and the crime. However, detectives conducted a search of the river and successfully recovered several of the missing items, including multiple key fobs and the suspected weapon used in the tire slashing.

Charges Gillio Now Faces

Anthony Gillio is now facing multiple serious charges in connection with the incident, including grand theft, criminal mischief, and tampering with evidence. The combination of charges reflects both the scale of the vandalism carried out at the Amazon facility and his alleged attempt to obstruct the investigation by disposing of evidence in the Caloosahatchee River.
