BEREA, KENTUCKY — An 18-year-old identified as Brailen Weaver has been arrested and federally charged after he allegedly walked into a U.S. Bank branch in Berea, Kentucky on April 30, 2026, shot and killed two employees, searched through cash drawers, and fled the scene. Customers were present inside the bank during the midday robbery when the attack took place.
The Victims
The two employees killed during the robbery were identified as 42-year-old Brian Switzer and 35-year-old teller Breanna Edwards. Both were shot and killed inside the bank branch as Weaver allegedly made his way through the building before fleeing with cash from the drawers.
How Investigators Caught Weaver
Investigators linked Weaver to the crime through a combination of digital evidence that proved difficult to dispute. His getaway car had been listed publicly on his own Facebook profile, and clothing visible in his social media photos matched what surveillance footage captured the suspect wearing inside the bank during the robbery.
Most strikingly, Weaver posted an Instagram story just hours after the attack showing a meme featuring stacks of cash with the caption “I pledge allegiance to da bag,” further connecting him to the crime in the eyes of investigators.
High Speed Chase and Capture
Following the robbery, a high-speed chase unfolded on Interstate 75 before ending in a crash in Lexington. Weaver was captured early the following morning after the pursuit concluded, bringing a swift end to his attempt to evade law enforcement following the deadly midday attack.
Charges and Possible Sentence
Weaver now faces federal charges in connection with the robbery and the killing of both bank employees. Given the severity of the crime, he faces either life in prison or the death penalty as possible outcomes if convicted on all charges.
