SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — Flooding has taken over multiple roads in and around the San Antonio area, with conditions already deteriorating across the region. A TxDOT traffic camera captured striking images of I-35 at Salado Creek submerged under floodwater, and officials warn the situation is far from over as more rain continues to move into the area.
I-35 at Salado Creek Underwater
The Texas Department of Transportation shared a traffic camera image clearly showing IH-35 at Salado Creek overwhelmed by floodwater. The image reveals standing water spreading across the roadway, with traffic cones and warning signs already in place attempting to alert drivers to the dangerous conditions below the overpass.
Traffic on the elevated portion of the highway continued moving, but the lower road levels near the creek crossing were visibly swamped, making passage through that section extremely hazardous for any vehicle attempting to cross.
Conditions Expected to Get Worse
Authorities made clear that this is not the end of the flooding threat. More rain is actively moving into the San Antonio region, meaning water levels could continue rising across already impacted roads and neighborhoods.
TxDOT issued the warning alongside the camera footage, urging drivers to stay alert and avoid flooded roadways entirely. Even roads that appear passable can hide dangerous depths underneath, putting drivers and passengers at serious risk.
Safety Reminder for Drivers
Flood conditions across San Antonio demand extreme caution from all road users. Drivers are strongly advised to never attempt crossing a flooded road regardless of how shallow the water may appear. Just a few inches of moving water can sweep a vehicle off course, and deeper water can stall engines and trap occupants inside.
The reminder from emergency management officials remains consistent — turn around, don’t drown. If a road ahead appears flooded, find an alternate route immediately and monitor local alerts for road closure updates from TxDOT.
Residents in low-lying areas near Salado Creek and other waterways across the San Antonio region should remain on high alert as rainfall totals continue to climb throughout the day. Stay with GordonRamsayClub.com for the latest updates.
