DETROIT, MICHIGAN — The Wayne County prosecutor announced that no charges would be filed against a 22-year-old shooter in connection with the fatal shooting of three people at a Detroit gas station on April 19, 2026. The three victims were identified as Lester Owens III, 24, Jasmine Sheeler, 24, and Trevor Sheeler Jr., 19, all of Detroit. Detroit Police were dispatched at approximately 2:59 AM on April 19, 2026, to a gas station on the 21700 block of West McNichols Road following a reported shooting. Officers arrived to find Jasmine Sheeler suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and Lester Owens III and Trevor Sheeler Jr. both suffering from gunshot wounds to the head. Sheeler was pronounced dead at the scene while Owens and Sheeler Jr. were transported to a local hospital where they later died from their injuries.
Victims Followed Driver to Gas Station After Car Accident — Physical Altercation Preceded Shooting
Investigators alleged that a car accident involving the driver’s vehicle and the vehicle carrying the three victims occurred prior to the shooting. Following the accident, police say the three victims followed the driver to the gas station on West McNichols Road. Once at the station, the three exited their vehicle, approached the driver’s side door, opened it, and engaged in a physical altercation with the driver.
During the altercation, a 22-year-old man seated in the rear of the driver’s vehicle fired a weapon, fatally wounding all three individuals who had initiated the physical confrontation at the driver’s door.

The Detroit Police Department submitted a warrant request on April 20, 2026, seeking charges against the 22-year-old shooter.
