LIVONIA, MICHIGAN — A devastating early morning crash on Interstate 275 left a 21-year-old man from Plymouth dead after his car became trapped beneath a semi truck in a violent collision that shut down part of the highway.
Authorities say the crash happened around 4:00 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of I-275 near 8 Mile Road in Livonia.
Investigators say the victim was driving a Chevrolet Camaro when the vehicle lost control on wet pavement, setting off a chain of events that ended with the sports car wedged underneath a semi truck. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but the young driver did not survive the crash.
Camaro Lost Control on Wet Interstate
According to investigators, the Camaro was traveling southbound on I-275 when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the slick roadway.
Wet pavement conditions may have contributed to the driver losing control, though investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
After the Camaro spun or veered into another lane, it collided with a semi truck traveling along the interstate. The impact caused catastrophic damage to the passenger side of the car.
