21-Year-Old Plymouth Man Killed After Chevrolet Camaro Becomes Wedged Under Semi Truck on I-275 in Livonia, Michigan

LIVONIA, MICHIGAN — A devastating early morning crash on Interstate 275 left a 21-year-old man from Plymouth dead after his car became trapped beneath a semi truck in a violent collision that shut down part of the highway.

Authorities say the crash happened around 4:00 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of I-275 near 8 Mile Road in Livonia.

Investigators say the victim was driving a Chevrolet Camaro when the vehicle lost control on wet pavement, setting off a chain of events that ended with the sports car wedged underneath a semi truck. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but the young driver did not survive the crash.

Camaro Lost Control on Wet Interstate

According to investigators, the Camaro was traveling southbound on I-275 when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the slick roadway.

Wet pavement conditions may have contributed to the driver losing control, though investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.

After the Camaro spun or veered into another lane, it collided with a semi truck traveling along the interstate. The impact caused catastrophic damage to the passenger side of the car.

Car Became Trapped Under Semi Truck

Authorities say the semi truck struck the passenger side of the Camaro, leaving the car pinned underneath the much larger vehicle. Images from the scene show the sports car severely crushed beneath the front of the semi truck, with debris scattered across the roadway.

The force of the crash left the Camaro heavily damaged and trapped under the truck’s front section, creating a complex rescue situation for first responders. Emergency crews worked at the scene as investigators began examining the wreckage.

Young Plymouth Man Killed in Crash

Officials confirmed the driver of the Camaro, a 21-year-old man from Plymouth, died as a result of the crash. His identity has not yet been publicly released pending notification of family members.

Crashes involving passenger vehicles and semi trucks are often especially dangerous because of the significant difference in size and weight between the vehicles. In many cases, smaller vehicles can become trapped underneath large trucks during severe collisions.

Investigation Continues

Authorities continue to investigate the crash as they work to determine the full sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.

Investigators will review roadway conditions, vehicle positions, and other factors to understand how the Camaro lost control before striking the semi truck. Traffic on the interstate was affected as emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.

For drivers across Michigan, the crash serves as a reminder of how hazardous highways can become during wet conditions, particularly in the early morning hours when visibility and road traction may be reduced.

As the investigation moves forward, officials say more information could be released once the crash reconstruction is complete. For more breaking stories and updates, visit GordonRamsayClub.com.
